January 10, 2006

Mr. Derby,

Happy New Year! I certainly hope your Holidays were enjoyable. I visited the Rosslyn and Arlington Cemetery stations last Thursday, January 5, 2006 to complete my inspections. Both stations' appearance continue to show improvement.

At Rosslyn I observed one lower level elevator out of service. I contacted our escalator division and was informed that the handrail assembly needed to be replaced. This work was completed Friday, January 6th. Two bike impound stickers have expired. I contacted our Transit Police department who committed to having these units removed. One light was out near the top of the up escalator to the mezzanine. I have contacted our Power department and opened a work order for this repair. Additionally, I have spoken to the Superintendent of Plant Maintenance who informed me that his staff has attempted to repair the leakage on the main elevator shaft. It has also been sub-contracted out to a vendor and the problem still exists. He has escalated this problem to our engineering staff at our headquarters office. I have requested to be kept updated on the status of this work order.

At Arlington, all of the globes have been cleaned and relamped. There are five globes missing and are currently on order. The lower level escalator #4 was out of service. This was a call back repair and is scheduled to be back in service on January 17, 2006.

The Blue-Orange Line Team has taken multiple steps to address your concern regarding the support of our station managers and the placing of service requests. We are confident that our new on-line reporting system will improve the awareness of over due work orders and facilitate repairs. We have also re-instructed our station managers to escalate maintenance issues to their immediate supervisors for assistance. We are confident that by elevating these matters to management will help to resolve some of the lingering issues we have experienced in the past. Also, by having Line Management out in the stations on a consistent basis we will be able to take a proactive approach to addressing maintenance type issues.

We continue to appreciate your concern for our system. I will update you when I visit the stations next week.

Sincerely,

Paul Bumbry

Mr. Derby,

Both Rosslyn and Arlington Cemetery stations were inspected last Thursday, January 19, 2006.

At Rosslyn I observed one of the main "down" escalators out of service. I contacted our escalator division and was informed that the unit experienced a comb impact fault and was only out of service for approximately one hour. Also, one of the two escalators leading to the plaza level is part of our Modernization Project (reconditioned) and is scheduled to be out of service until April 12, 2006. The other unit is being used as a "walker". The modernization project will improve the reliability of the unit moving forward. I also noticed what appears to be some vandalism on the lower level escalator #5. The glass had been shattered and taped up. Our Escalator Division has a open work order for the repair of this glass.

The abandoned bikes have been removed and the bike rack has room for additional use. The light on the"up" main escalator has not been repaired. I spoke with the Area Manager from our Power Division who will expedite this work order. I will have a status of the engineering request for the elevator leakage on my next update.

At Arlington Cemetery, there are a total of six globes missing, but all lights are operational. My Power Division has assured me that the replacement globes have been ordered and the delay is due to the special size of the opening of the globe.

I'll be visiting the sites on February 2, 2006 and will update you soon there after. Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Paul Bumbry

Mr. Derby,

The first week was a little rough due to some mechanical (train breakdowns) and operational (getting use to longer trains) problems. We will continue to monitor and adjust the service where necessary. Based on our records, the service was better the second week.

We will be doing a survey in the Spring to see if customers like or dislike the 8-car trains. Use of longer trains, however, becomes more critical for us as demand continues to grow.

Thanks for your feedback,
Charles Dziduch

We do appreciate the updates. I share them with the community.

Just a personal note - the trains seems to be running a lot more
smoothly this week than last when the 8 car trains were first
introduced.

Best regards,

Paul

Mr. Derby,

I would like to apologize for the delay in updating you from my
inspection on March 7, 2006. I attended a week long training session
and upon my return, suffered a death in my family. Some of the
information below may be dated at this point so I will conduct my next
inspection on Tuesday April 4, 2006. I appreciate your understanding.

Open Issues: Rosslyn

Vandalism on Lower Level escalator #5 - Open work order 1/24/06.
Contacted Escalator Division for status and was informed that the glass
was a special order and they would follow up and provide an estimated
repair date.

Elevator leakage - I was informed that our Civil Engineering Department
was developing a plan to rectify this leak.

One track bed light was out - Reported 3/7/06.

Trash noticed against wall edge lower level - Contacted Station
Maintenance staff.

One lobby light was out - This light should be replaced within the
week.

Four "Up escalator" lights out - Reported 3/7/06

Open Issues: Arlington

There remains are a total of six globes missing, but all lights are
operational. I have been informed that the fixture to hold these globes
in place cannot be used on the new globes. Our Power department
continues to try and resolve this matter.

Expect to hear from me early next week.

Sincerely,
