Citizens of the 2nd Police District:

We have two emerging robbery series in the month of January. One series (3 cases) is occurring in the Rosslyn / Courthouse area, the other series (3 cases) is occurring in the Crystal City area. It is possible that the same two suspects may be responsible for all of the cases.

Rest assured that we are maintaining a heavy presence, both uniformed and plain clothes, in the effected areas. I will keep you posted of any significant developments.

A brief synopsis of the cases is as follows. Please keep in mind that this information was provided by the victims.

1.) 01/04/08, 7:00pm, 1300 S. Joyce St., the victim was robbed by 2 black males, 16 – 18 years of age; one armed with a handgun.
2.) 01/08/08, 9:55pm, 600 S. 26th St., the victim was robbed by 2 black males, 18 – 20 years of age; one implied that he had a handgun.
3.) 01/15/08, 10:42pm, 1400 N. Fairfax Dr., the victim was robbed by 2 black males in their 20's, force was used (no weapon).
4.) 01/22/08, 12:25am, 1600 Wilson Blvd., the victim was robbed by 2 black males in their 20's – 30's, force was used (no weapon). There is reason to believe
that the suspects are from Maryland or DC.
5.) 01/23/08, 8:46pm, 1600 S. Joyce St., the victim was robbed by 2 black males in their 20's. As the suspects drove by the victim in a light colored 4-door
vehicle, the passenger reached out the window and grabbed the victim's backpack. The suspects never got out of the vehicle.
6.) 01/23/08, 10:30pm, 2000 N. 14th St., the victim was robbed by 2 black males in their 20's, force was used (no weapon).

We had two more robberies last night (January 24th). A brief synopsis is below. Detectives are working some good leads and I am hopeful that we will have this issue resolved before long.

- 1200 S. Eads St., at approximately 11:30 pm, the three victims were walking in the area when they were approached by two subjects who asked them for money. A struggle ensued and the suspects took two of the victims' personal property. The third victim was assaulted and sustained a non-life threatening injury to his face. The suspects fled the scene and possibly left in a purple or maroon vehicle. Suspect #1 is described as a black male in his 20's, 5'10" tall, 160 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a dark baseball hat. Suspect #2 is described as a black male in his 20's, 5'10" tall, 160 pounds, wearing a dark ˜pea' coat.

- 901 N. Pollard St. (1st District), at approximately 1:00 am on January 25th, the victim was walking in the area when he was approached by two subjects who asked him for money. When the victim said he had none, the suspects grabbed the victim. They went through his pockets and took an assortment of his personal property. The suspects fled the scene on foot. Suspect #1 is described as a black male, about 25 years old, 5'9" tall, 180 pounds, with some facial hair, wearing dark jeans and a black jacket. Suspect #2 is described as a black male, about 25 years old, 5'9" tall, 180 pounds, wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

We have experienced 2 more robberies in the Second Police District. The first robbery is believed to be related to our ongoing series, the second appears to be unrelated.

- January 26th, , 1am, 1000 block of N. Barton St.: the female victim was approached from behind by two black male suspects who took the victim's purse after a struggle.
- January 28th , 5:20pm, parking garage at Pentagon City Mall: the female victim was sitting in her vehicle in the parking garage when a black male suspect produced a handgun and demanded her vehicle. The suspect punched the victim in the jaw. The victim was able to run away and her vehicle was not taken.

This robbery series is our #1 priority. We have deployed a myriad of resources to address it. Detectives continue to work on some strong leads.
