Some positive/hopeful signs

On July 5, APS held a ˜work session' on Wilson School. As previously, those who want to Save Wilson School showed up with signs and buttons. Great thanks to the Arlington Artists Alliance who attended in substantial numbers. NRCA, RAFOM, and Colonial Village were also represented.

On the downside, the APS Board Chair (Libby Garvey) and Vice Chair (Frank Wilson) generally supported the staff proposal for intensive development at Wilson School. "It's not our responsibility to build parks. That's a county responsibility."

However, comments from the remaining board members were much more hopeful:

Dave Foster said that he'd like to see all Wilson School greenspace, including the areas now covered with trailers, returned back to greenspace.
Ed Fendley was outspoken against the intensive development proposal. He sees a long-term groundlease as equivalent to sale. He also favors an approach that emphasizes community/public use of Wilson over plans to use Wilson for revenue generation.
Sally Baird indicated support for maintaining Wilson so that it can be used as an ˜urban school' in the future.

Lesson: Keep the pressure up folks. Stay active. Things are beginning to move our way.
