Arlington County Police Department Partners with Nextdoor, the Private Social Network for Neighborhoods December 9, 2015 ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Arlington County Police Department announced today a partnership with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve countywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications. Led by Chief of Police M. Jay Farr, this partnership with Nextdoor will enable the Arlington County Police Department to use Nextdoor to build stronger, safer communities with the help of Arlington residents. The Arlington County Police Department and Nextdoor neighborhoods will be able to work together to increase safety and strengthen virtual neighborhood watch. “Having the ability to easily communicate with residents is extremely vital to not only maintaining, but also increasing safety and reducing crime within our communities,” said Chief Farr. “With Nextdoor, we can help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and connected, as well as give them the ability to collaborate on neighborhood watch efforts.” Nextdoor has already proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for Arlington residents. Already 73 neighborhoods, representing 88 percent of the neighborhoods in Arlington, have started Nextdoor websites. With Nextdoor, Arlington residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities. The Police Department will be able to post information, such as important news, services, programs, free events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor websites within Arlington County. Nextdoor is free for residents and the Police Department. Each Arlington neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website and the Police Department will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines. Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. | ||
