A few neighborhood happenings: 1. I attended a meeting earlier this week about using the old Newseum space as an Arlington Arts Center. The County is engaged in making this happen with participation from a number of groups including (and this is not a complete list) Synetic Theater, Washington Shakespeare Theater, Bowen McCarley Dance, Jane Franklin Dance, Heritage Arts, Classika Children Theater and the Ellipse Art Center. Rosslyn BID is also contributing resources. This will be great! Our own John Seal (Atrium) is one of the triumvirate leading the effort. The others are Norma Kaplan from the County, and Steve Luchter of Arlington Citizens for the Arts. We'll even get a nice little restaurant out of it: Busboys and Poets. 2. A new restaurant opened earlier this month. Rays the Steaks (in the strip mall on Wilson west of Quinn) has opened an annex offering top quality burgers. It's apparently doing very well, but is open only in the evenings. 3. We (NRCA) have a general meeting scheduled for August 12 at the Atrium meeting room, 7-8:30. We'll likely have the fire department come in and talk about safety in condos. 4. Not much to report on Wilson. APS continues to plan on Wilson remaining an elementary school That's really good. But Arlington County .... I'm just not getting feedback because they meet with developer(s?) in secret. This Fall the County will likely present a plan to the public and give us a chance to respond. Not a great process, but they make the rules. Hope Summer is going well Mark Antell | |||
