* Whether or not the following information applies to you, please assist us by forwarding this message on to any neighbors / friends / members of the Rosslyn community for whom you have email addresses, and ask them to do the same...

Residents of Rosslyn / Our Neighbors:

The North Rosslyn Civic Association ("NRCA") offers residents of Rosslyn the opportunity to actively participate in, change, and better our local community. However, many residents may not know the organization exists or how to participate and could, therefore, be missing out on this opportunity. Whether you are a citizen looking to become more active outside of work / school, someone with future political aspirations, or are simply looking to meet new people within our community, NRCA welcomes your input, participation, and/or membership.

Civic associations are the official mechanism set up by the county for addressing neighborhood needs. NRCA is extremely active in the Rosslyn community and a list of current and pending activities that we are involved in is attached at the end of this message. Many of these important activities involve issues that some people within the community take for granted; however, our organization works hard to help preserve these services. Participating NRCA members can lend a helping hand with any of these projects and/or propose and pursue their own through the organization's framework and with the support of our members.

There are plenty of ways to become actively involved in NRCA and we encourage everyone living in the North Rosslyn community to try and become involved at some level. Participation levels include:

"¢ Basic Level - Participate in any NRCA activities you feel you can lend your time to whether you are an "official" member or not (activities are posted on the NRCA website at https://community.northrosslyn.org).

"¢ Level 2 - Become an "official" member, which will allow you to actively participate in activities/projects and our quarterly general meetings, as well as to use the NRCA website for posting topics or proposals, participating in discussion forums, and voting on issues affecting our community (membership information is also located at https://community.northrosslyn.org).

"¢ Level 3: - Join a committee and help plan activities and projects.

"¢ Level 4: - Join the NRCA board, attend board meetings, and help plan for, shape, and oversee the organization (there is currently an open spot on the board for someone looking to become more involved).

It's your choice what level you feel you would like to participate at. Regardless, we hope you will take the opportunity to actively participate at some level and make a difference in the North Rosslyn community. To find out more, please visit our website at https://community.northrosslyn.org, and follow the "Membership" link under the "Information" tab. Please also feel free to contact any of our board members who can provide you with additional information. Board member contact information can be found by following the "Contact us" link under the "Information" tab.

Don't forget to review the list of current and pending NRCA projects attached to this message, and we look forward to meeting you.

Best wishes from,

The North Rosslyn Civic Association

CURRENT & PENDING NRCA PROJECTS (in no particular order):

"¢ Wilson School Area - The County and Arlington Public Schools are currently discussing plans for redevelopment of the property that houses Fire Station 10, the Wilson School, and Rosslyn Highlands Park (located across from Café Asia on Wilson Blvd). Most of these discussions have focused on the idea of a high-rise development over a large percentage of the site to bring in revenue to the County and the school system. (The fire station would be rebuilt somewhere on the site as part of the development). The school and grounds, which have been populated by unsightly "temporary" trailers for the larger part of the last decade,
previously served the needs of neighborhood residents, local children, and organizations for recreation and classes. These uses are likely to be lost entirely in redevelopment schemes unless NRCA can mobilize enough residents to have our voices heard. NRCA has been actively involved in trying preserve some of the very last recreational greenspace that Rosslyn has to offer its residents.

"¢ Area Crime - NRCA keeps all members informed with updated reports on crime in our community. The reports are sent to our organization by the Arlington County Police, who also give helpful safety tips based on the latest crime trends in our area.

"¢ School / County Board - Participation in NRCA allows for ample opportunities to meet with school and county board officials to discuss issues that are important to you and/or our community.

"¢ Community Picnic - In place of our last quarterly general meeting of the year, NRCA will host the first annual "community picnic" on September 13. This picnic will be an opportunity for friends and neighbors throughout Rosslyn to "meet and greet." Picnic planning is scheduled to begin in the next couple months and your input is welcome.

"¢ Georgetown Blue Bus Service – It was recently announced that the blue bus service running from Rosslyn, through Georgetown, to Dupont and back may be cut to budget restraints. An estimated half million people use this service on a regular basis, and it is an extremely affordable service that offers access to the fun and businesses that Rosslyn, Dupont, and metro-less Georgetown have to offer. The loss of this service could potentially have a large adverse impact on residents and businesses in these areas. As this issue develops in the coming months, NRCA may become involved in efforts to save the service.

"¢ Community Service – NRCA is looking to branch out by participating in community service projects on a regular basis. Your input and planning on this endeavor are welcomed.

"¢ Central Place Observation Desk – When the new Central Place development opens in Rosslyn, it will house an observation deck allowing for sweeping views of D.C. and the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor. While there are currently plans to charge visitors an access fee to use the observation deck, NRCA has been involved in talks to either make access free for residents, or available through a yearly pass at an affordable price.

"¢ The Newseum - The Newseum has moved to a new home in Washington D.C. NRCA has been involved in discussions on what should be done with the vacant space.

"¢ The Spectrum - The Spectrum is scheduled for redevelopment. NRCA has been active with input / discussions with the developers on this project to ensure that any decisions made are in the best interest of our community.

"¢ Emergency / Disaster Preparedness - Through the NRCA website, residents are kept informed of the latest developments in emergency and disaster preparedness.

"¢ Sidewalks and Lighting - As with the metro, some residents take things such as the maintenance of sidewalks and lighting for granted. However, many of these facilities are only maintained in top condition due to the efforts of NRCA and active communication with the county.

"¢ Rosslyn Commons - Rosslyn Commons, which will consist of townhouses and a condominium, is scheduled to be built at the current site of Starbucks across from the Belvedere condominium. NRCA has been active in meetings with the developers to ensure that the development meets the needs of the Rosslyn community.

"¢ Metro Maintenance - Many residents take the cleanliness and working facilities of the Rosslyn metro station (and skywalk) for granted, and do not realize that this is partially the result of meetings and active communication between NRCA and WMATA. NRCA's participation helps keep these facilities in good shape for thousands of daily commuters. In addition, NRCA was responsible for recent improvements to the Arlington Cemetery metro stop, including the replacement of several broken or damaged "globe" lights. This effort has helped keep the stop a welcoming and inviting entry way for the hundreds of thousands of tourists visiting the cemetery every year.

"¢ YOUR PROJECT – Please join NRCA and begin pursuing your own project or area of interest with our support.
