NORTH ROSSLYN CIVIC ASSOCIATION (NRCA) MINUTES OF COMMUNITY MEETING SEPTEMBER 20, 2017 HOLIDAY INN, ROSSLYN, VA The meeting began with an informal gathering of a number of our attendees at the top floor of the Inn. Those present enjoyed light refreshments prior to the meeting’s formal start. President Kendra reminded us all that the Holiday Inn gives us a free meeting space with the understanding that we will support these pre-meeting hospitality events. President Sylvia Kendra opened the meeting at roughly 7 pm. Attending were Board members Sylvia Kendra, Treasurer John Hummel, and Elena Chambers. There were two community members in the audience: Mark Antel and Mark McLachlen. President Kendra introduced our guest speakers from the Arlington County Police Department: Captain Wayne Vincent, Lieutenant Dan Murphy, and Sergeants Chad Ramsey, James O’Daniel, and Moe Tebibi. Our guests discussed topics including: • telephone scams regarding jury duty, IRS claims for money, fake kidnapping of dependents • traffic and pedestrians • thefts, including larceny at CVS stores and skimmers at gas pumps (hint: paying inside is safest) • BREAKFAST WITH THE CHIEF October 30 at Hyatt Centric. While this is a sponsored business affair, community members are most welcome. Register early – President Kendra will distribute the flyer. Following this presentation, the three members of the Board discussed the draft changes to our By Laws and approved the amended By Laws for vote at the next meeting. See attached revised document. The Treasurer presented the August financial statements, stating that we have just over $1,000 in the Bank. He also stated that we now have thirty 2018 Sponsorship window decals and a draft of our Sponsorship trifold (which Elena hopes to refine and print). We are in position to promote our 2018 Sponsorships to community businesses. We agreed we will approach businesses with a minimum of two Board members per vendor, charge a flat fee of $250 per vendor for the calendar year, and limit our first effort to attaining five more Sponsorships. With Hair Gallery, which has already paid, that will be six vendors. At that time the Board will consider next steps. The meeting ended at roughly 8:45.
