Rosslyn Metro Station Cleanup

After a prolonged series of requests and help from County Board member Chris Zimmerman, the Washington Area Metro Transit Authority has committed to clean our station. The major cleanup will occur in February 2005. The signs on the lower level next to the tracks will be cleaned before August 15, 2004. Here is the notification we received from WMATA:

Dear Mr. Derby:

This is in response to a July 15, 2004 email from The Honorable Christopher Zimmerman, relaying your concerns about the cleanliness of the Rosslyn Metrorail station and particularly the signs.

Our Plant Maintenance (PLNT) staff has inspected the station. The type of cleaning required at Rosslyn is normally performed under PLNT's station enhancement program. Under this program, intensive efforts are undertaken to renew concrete and granite surfaces; machine scrub mezzanine and platform floors; paint and refinish surfaces; and, restore signs.

Our current schedule shows that Rosslyn is due for a station enhancement in February 2005 . However, during the interim period, PLNT will have the signs on the vault walls (which identify the name of the station) cleaned within the next six weeks. Because these signs are located above the track bed, PLNT will need to coordinate efforts with our Department of Rail Service to obtain track access. In addition, we will direct the supervisors responsible for this station to monitor it more closely and follow up with appropriate corrective actions in a timely manner.

Should you require any further information on this subject, we would be happy to provide it. We appreciate your support of Metro.

Sincerely,

James T. Gallagher
