Dear Neighbor,
I’d like to inform you of infrastructure improvements that will begin this fall and bring a
number of long term benefits to the surrounding community, businesses, and commuters.
To accommodate the increase in ridership and provide an improved transit experience,
Arlington County approved the Rosslyn Metrorail Station Access Improvement (RSAI)
Project to help increase access to the station. Among the benefits are a new, modern
entrance with three high-speed modern elevators, new station mezzanine with fare
collection equipment, and an emergency exit stairwell. The project is also being
implemented in anticipation of continued growth in rail ridership that will result from
new high density mixed land use development surrounding the station.
Access will be maintained to the current station elevator and existing Metrorail entrances
on N. Moore Street and Ft. Myer Drive throughout the project, but some disruptions to
current traffic patterns are expected. North Moore Street will be one way southbound
and limited to local transit and construction traffic. Bus service will be maintained on
N. Moore Street, with some bus stops relocated. The construction staging area on the
east side of N. Moore Street (north of the existing plaza) will limit pedestrian travel and
close access to Annie’s Park. Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to use caution and
follow only designated pathways. Signage will be posted to aid traffic flow. The project
is slated for completion in 2013.
Renderings of the projects and an anticipated construction schedule will soon be available
by visiting www.arlingtonva.us/des and search “Rosslyn Station Access Improvement
Project.” I also encourage you and your neighbors to sign up to receive RSAI Project
news and updates via email: https://www.arlingtonva.us/sub...ptions/subscribe.asp.
Visit www.commuterpage.com for the latest commuting news and information.
I would also appreciate your efforts to share this information with your civic association
members. If you have any questions, please call RSAI Community Outreach Project
Manager Bonnie Parker at 703.228.3173 or email at bparker@arlingtonva.us.
Sincerely,
Stephen Del Giudice,
Transit Bureau Chief
