Second District North (Rosslyn area) Significant Crimes & Trends - October, 2007

Below are the 2nd District – North significant crimes, crime trends and events for October, 2007, as provided by Captain Brian Berke of the Arlington County Police Department.

Ongoing Crime Trends

- Numerous cases of thefts from vehicles in the garages of the Rosslyn high rises. Electronics such as GPS units, laptops, etc. are taken most frequently. Please remember to lock your vehicles and remove anything of value (at least put items of value out of sight).
- Numerous cases of stolen bicycles from building storage areas. Please remember to securely lock your bicycles and register them with the county (this can be accomplished from the police department web site – www.arlingtonva.us/police.
- Rosslyn high rise office burglaries and thefts of laptops are on the decline, but still continue.
- There have been several incidents throughout the county in which unidentified suspects are taking copper from buildings that are under construction.

Significant Crime

- ROBBERY, 10/19/07, 1500 block of N. 16th St. At approximately 6:05 pm on October 19, a 41 year old man was sitting in a park when 3 men approached him. The suspects punched and kicked the victim and stabbed him in the right shoulder before taking his wallet and cell phone. The victim suffered minor injuries. One juvenile suspect was later located in the area and taken into custody. Detective Linder from our Homicide/Robbery Unit subsequently identified and charged two additional juveniles in the case.
- MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 10/14/07, 1600 block of N. 21ST. At approximately 1:45 am on October 14, a 22 year old man was leaving a friend's apartment building when he was attacked by two men. One of the suspects struck the victim with a metal expandable baton and the other produced a gun and pointed it at the victim. The victim was able to run back to his friend's apartment and the suspects fled. They are both described as white males, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, between 135 and 160 lbs.
- BURGLARY, 10/10/07, 1200 block N. Fort Myer Dr. Sometime between 2:00 am and 6:30 am on October 10, someone broke into a business through a door. A safe and cash were taken.
