Second District (Rosslyn area) Crime and Activity Bulletin - May 2010

The following is a list of criminal activity occurring in Second District North for May, 2010.

We experienced an increase in robberies during the month of May. There were five in the 2nd District North area. Of those two resulted in arrests. Please remain aware of your surroundings at all times when walking through the area. If you notice anyone or anything suspicious please call the non-emergency number.

Listed below are some of the community issues that the 2nd District Policing Team worked on during May:

- Extra patrols in Lyon Village and Clarendon.
- Extra patrols in Rosslyn and around Metro stations.
- Extra patrols along the bike path.

Please do not leave valuables in your vehicles. Call in suspicious persons / activity to the police.
ATTEMPT ROBBERY-ARREST 05/02/10, 1500 block of Key Boulevard. On May 2 at midnight, three subjects assaulted and attempted steal a wallet from a man riding a bicycle. Two adult male suspects and one juvenile male suspect were located by police. Charges are pending.

ROBBERY 05/13/10, 1600 block of N. Veitch Street. On May 13 at 5:45 pm, a woman was walking while talking on her cell phone. A male suspect tackled her and stole her phone. The suspect was apprehended by police. Samuel Taylor, 18, of Arlington, was charged with Robbery. He was held without bond.

ATTEMPT ROBBERY 05/13/10, 1700 block of N. Lynn Street. On May 13 at 1:30 am, two unknown men assaulted a delivery driver and attempted to rob him. One suspect was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a black face mask. The second suspect was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with jeans and a black face mask.

STALKING/PEEPING TOM-ARREST 05/13/10, 1200 block of N. Wayne Street. On May 13 at 9:45 pm, a man was seen peeping into an apartment window. The same suspect was seen committing the crime several times previously. Police apprehended him. Mariano Payo, 28, of Arlington, was charged with Stalking and Peeping into an Occupied Dwelling. He was held on a $3,000 bond.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 05/13/10, 2300 block of Clarendon Boulevard. Between 5:45 pm on May 12, and 9 am on May 13, an unknown subject forcibly entered a business and stole several laptop computers. There are no known suspects.

ROBBERY 05/25/10, 1800 block of N. Moore Street. On May 25 at 9:45 pm, an unknown woman and man approached a man waiting at a bus stop. The male suspect asked the victim if he had a cell phone. When the victim pulled it out, the suspects stole it and fled on foot. Both suspect were African American and in their early 20’s. The male suspect was 5’6” and wearing a black jacket, black jeans and a black head covering. The female was 5’5” with a heavy build, and was wearing blue jean, a blue jacket and carried a purse.

ATTEMPT ROBBERY 05/20/10, Wilson Boulevard at N. Quinn Street. On May 20 at 1 am, a group of people was walking when a vehicle pulled up beside them. The passenger in the car displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspects drove off when the victims could not give them money. The suspect vehicle is described as an older model grey sedan with tinted windows. The passenger is described as an African American male with a bandana over his face wearing a black baseball hat and a short sleeve shirt.

BURGLARY 05/22/10, 1500 block of N. Rhodes Street. On May 22 at 11 pm, a woman returned home to find an unknown man inside her apartment. The suspect ran from the apartment when confronted. He is described as a white Hispanic male in his 30’s, 5’7” and 180 lbs. He was wearing a dark colored t-shirt and khaki cargo pants.

ATTEMPT COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 05/26/10, 2700 block of Clarendon Boulevard. On May 26 at 2 am, three unknown subjects were seen attempting to break a glass window to gain access to a business. They were unsuccessful and fled on foot. The three suspects were dressed in all black clothing.
