Second District (Rosslyn area) Crime and Activity Bulletin - September 2008

The following is a list of criminal activity occurring in 2D North for September, 2008.

Burglaries and auto related crimes were down quite a bit this month. We also had a couple of unusual incidents reported.

Please do not leave valuables in your vehicles. Call in suspicious persons / activity to the police.


ABDUCTION, 09/10/08, 2100 block of N. 18th Street. On September 10 at 10 am, an unknown male broke into a woman's apartment. He threatened her with a knife and would not let her leave. He also exposed himself to her repeatedly. The suspect fled on foot. He is described as an African American male in his 30's, 5'11", with a muscular build. He had a full beard and mustache, with gray or white in it. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, black shorts, dark shoes, and a black knit cap.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 09/11/08, 1300 block of N Danville Street. On September 11 at 11:30 am, a woman and her elderly mother got into an argument. When the mother's caretaker intervened, the daughter cut the caretaker with a pair of scissors. The caretaker was not seriously injured, and the suspect was taken in for a mental evaluation.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 09/14/08, 1500 block of N. Quinn Street. At 11 pm on September 14, a subject approached a woman from behind while she was walking. He stabbed her in the left arm with an unknown object and fled the scene. The suspect is described as a white Hispanic male, 18-22 years old, medium build, about 180 1lbs. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, and long pants.

ROBBERY, 09/14/08, 1800 block of N. Quinn Street. On September 14 at 5:30 am, a man was approached by an unknown male. The suspect asked the victim for a cigarette. While the victim was handing the suspect a cigarette, another subject assaulted the victim from behind. Several items were stolen from the victim, and he suffered various injuries. The first suspect is described as an African American male, 6'1", thin build. There is no description on the second suspect.

LARCENY, 09/19/08, 1300 block of N. Courthouse Road. On September 19 at 10 am, an unknown subject stole several sets of elevator doors from a loading dock. There is no suspect description.

ARSON, 09/24/08, 1700 block of N. Lynn Street. On September 24 at 9 am, a man lit a fire in a stairwell. The Fire Marshal investigated and charged Grant Sleeper, 53, of no fixed address, with violating an ordinance about illegally kindling a fire. He was held on a $3,500 secure bond.

BURGLARY, 09/24/08, 1600 block of N. Kent Street. Between 7 pm on September 23, and 8:30 am on September 24, an unknown suspect stole three laptop computers from an office site. There is no suspect description.

DISCHARGING FIREARM-ARREST, 09/28/08, 2300 block of N. 11th Street. On September 28 at 10 pm, police responded for a report of gunfire. Officers determined a fight occurred, and one suspect fired a shotgun into an apartment complex courtyard. Frank E. Covington, 39, of Arlington, was charged with Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Jacqueline Day, 44, of Arlington, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Firearm with Cocaine. They were both held without bond.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY, 09/30/08, 2200 block of N. Fairfax Drive. On September 30 at 7:30 pm, two men yelled obscenities at a man and his girlfriend. As the couple was walking to their apartment, the two suspects attacked the male victim. Elmer Gonzales, 24, and Hilder Gonzales, 19, both of Arlington, were charged with Assault and Battery. They were held on $2,500 bond.

BURGLARY, 09/30/08, 1700 block of N. Kent Street. Between 11 am on September 29, and 8 am on September 30, an unknown suspect broke into a coin machine in an apartment building. There is no suspect description.



STOLEN VEHICLES, There were no vehicles reported stolen this month.
