Following is a note received 6/27/07 from Stan Karson of RAFOM ......... You may have read recently about proposals in Congress to include in the reauthorization bill for the Federal Aviation Agency permission to add many more flights into and out of National Airport. If you are concerned about this likelihood, please read on further. Carol Fernandez of United Airlines called me today to say that the FAA reauthorization bill is on a fast track through Congress. The Senate Commerce Committee reported the bill yesterday, restricting additional flights at National Airport to ten flights, so that bill is not all that bad. However, on the House side, the House Transportation Committee is scheduled to act on it today or tomorrow, and Chairman Oberstar is said to see no reason not to eliminate the perimeter rule entirely on flights at National. I was advised that it would be most effective to phone the five House members listed below today, or tomorrow at the latest, to oppose any change in the perimeter and high density rule for National Airport which would result in additional flights. If you can do that and get this message around to others in the RAFOM area, it could be helpful at this current legislative stage. Senators Webb and Warner, Governor Kaine and Congressmen Moran and Wolf have all expressed their opposition to the proposal for additional flights at National.
