Witnesses to pedestrian death sought
We have been contacted by Arlington County police and told that a pedestrian, Mr. William McCaffrey Appel, Jr, 50, was stuck by a car on Route 50 near the Iwo Jima Memorial and died after the accident.

Police are asking witnesses to come forward.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:40 P.M. Tuesday, September 22. The victim, an adult white male was apparently struck by a sedan while attempting to cross Arlington Boulevard prior to the George Washington Parkway exit ramp. The sedan driver stayed on scene, and cooperated fully with police. The pedestrian died at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
