This year's Marine Corps Marathon, scheduled for October 31, will likely affect our neighborhood to a greater extent than in the past. We have received additional details from the organizers, which are provided below:

On Sunday, Oct. 31st, the 29th annual Marine Corps Marathon will run
> through Arlington and Washington, D.C. This year, a change in the race
> course means the route covers more of Arlington than ever before. At
> the beginning, the course starts just south of the Iwo Jima memorial,
> runs through Rosslyn, down Lee Highway to Spout Run, and down the
> George
> Washington Parkway to Key Bridge. At the end, runners come back into
> Arlington on the 14th Street Bridge, head down Crystal Dr. into Crystal
> City, back up to Washington Blvd., past the Pentagon and up Rt. 110 to
> the finish line at Iwo Jima.
>
> The neighborhoods of North Rosslyn, North Highlands, Colonial Village,
> Lyon Village, Radnor/Ft. Myer Heights, Aurora Highlands and Crystal
> City
> will all be directly affected by the race course. Anyone planning to
> travel through these areas on the 31st needs to be aware that
> significant changes in traffic patterns and parking will be in place.
> If you're planning on watching the race, Metro is your best bet.
> Details on street closures--including a map of the course--is now
> available on the County website at www.arlingtonva.us. You can also
> call the Special Events hotline at 703-228-4147 for information.
>
> Arlington is very proud to be the home of the Marine Corps Marathon.
> Each year, the tens of thousands of runners, fans and support staff who
> visit Arlington contribute millions of dollars to the County's economy
> in food, lodging, entertainment, transportation and retail purchases.
> Many first-time marathoners "earn their stripes" at this race, giving
> it
> the nickname "The People's Marathon".
