missing crosswalks on Key Blvd.

Hi there - this is just an FYI. I sent a message via the Arlington County "report an issue portal" to let them know the community has been missing the two crosswalks on Key Blvd since the streets were repaved. Here is our post: https://iframe.publicstuff.com...1250803#request-show

If others want to report the problem as well, it might get fixed faster. Maybe someone on the list serve knows if there is a reason the crosswalks have not yet been replaced?

Thanks,

Anna Duran

Hello Anna, glad you reported the problem. I've been trying to get Arlington County to restore the street bike lanes, car lanes and the two cross walks, too, since Nov 5th.

Here is their response.

311 Signs:
The Department of Environmental Services is aggressively pushing its two contractors to close out the paving season before the onset of winter. An unfortunate side effect of this is that our contracted pavement marking contractor cannot keep pace with the paving operations and have fallen behind schedule. Competition with the Virginia Department of Transportation for available contracted pavement marking crews have also contributed to these delays. To work our way safely through the challenge, we are prioritizing the installation of pavement markings based on the most risk to drivers and pedestrians. Now that the end of the paving and marking season is approaching, weather conditions are a contributing factor to additional delays. A surface temperature above 50 degrees and dry surface conditions are required in order for the marking material to adhere to the roadway surface. Our goal is to complete the striping for all repaved streets as soon as possible, weather permitting. We appreciate your patience as we strive to address the needs of the Arlington community. The pavement marking request is already in the work queue to address as soon as possible. After the markings are in, the pedestrian bollard will be replaced.

It would be interesting to see the list of projects that have higher priority than we do for completion of the Key Blvd project. Given our density, high percentage of residents that do not own cars, and high number of bicycle commuters one would think the work would have been completed by now.
