Short update on Wilson School

The Multi-Site Study Committee (MSSC) is charged by the School Board to develop a long-term plan for several sites including the Wilson School and Playfield. The MSSC took public comment last Monday (1/29/07). Paul Mulligan, Maggie Whitman, and Joe Famme spoke very well. The Monday meeting also brought out great testimony from Stu Stein of RAFOM, the Arts Coalition that has put together a strong bid to use Wilson creatively, the Historical Preservation Society, and several neighborhood-based Arlington activists. Stan Karson, who represents the entire Rosslyn Community on the MSSC, tells me that our testimony supports a conclusion that the local community sentiment about Wilson is preservationist.

On Saturday 2/3 several NRCA folks toured Wilson School with Wayne and Kristin Westbrook who are producing a film in support of preservation and creative use for Wilson School and Playfield. Please get in touch with Mark Antell if you wish to get involved in this film.

As mentioned in a previous note, NRCA has applied for historical status for Wilson School and Playfield. RAFOM has joined us in this application.
