Second District (Rosslyn area) Crime and Activity Bulletin - August 2010

The following is a list of criminal activity occurring in 2D North for August, 2010.


ROBBERY 08/07/10, 1800 block of N. Veitch Street. On August 7 at 11:30 pm, a woman was pushed down from behind and her purse was stolen. The suspect implied a weapon when the woman’s boyfriend attempted to approach him. The suspect is described as a 30-year-old African American male, 5’9” and 170 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair. He was wearing a green t-shirt with a colorful graphic on the front.

ROBBERY 08/07/10, 2700 block of Clarendon Boulevard. On August 7 at 5:30 pm, an unknown man entered the Apple Store, concealed several phones and assaulted a female employee when he left the store. The suspect is described as an African American male in his twenties, 5’10” and 150 lbs. He was last seen wearing a grey or white t-shirt with blue shorts.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY 08/09/10, 1400 block of N. Barton Street. On August 9 at 4 pm, a man was carrying computer equipment when two unknown men approached him and tried to forcefully steal his laptop. The victim fought them and they ran away. The suspects were both white Hispanic teenagers. One suspect was wearing a white tank top, jeans and had a shaved head. The second suspect was wearing a blue tank top, blue shorts and he had spiked hair.

SEXUAL BATTERY 08/04/10, 2600 block of N. 9th Street. On August 4 at 10 pm, a woman was walking down the sidewalk when an unknown man approached her. The suspect grabbed the victim’s breast, and then fled when she screamed. The suspect is described as an Asian male, 5’6” and 130 lbs.

ATTEMPT BURGLARY 08/05/10, 2300 block of N. 11th Street. Between 11:30 pm on August 4, and 8:30 am on August 5, an unknown subject tried to enter an apartment by breaking a window. There is no suspect description.

STOLEN AUTO 8/03/10 Untagged 2008 Tomo Nitro50 scooter, black 1800 block of Ft. Myer Drive

MALICIOUS WOUNDING-ARREST 08/11/10, 2000 block of Wilson Boulevard. On August 11 at 1:40 am, two men got into a physical altercation. One of the men threw the other to the ground and kicked him repeatedly. Paul Brooks, 30, of Alexandria, was charged with Malicious Wounding and Possession of Marijuana. He was held without bond.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING-ARREST 08/11/10, 1500 block of Arlington Boulevard. On August 11 at 5 am, a woman was kicked and punched by her boyfriend, who was later located at the metro. Tyrone Jackson, 30, of Capital Heights, MD, was charged with Malicious Wounding and held without bond.

SEXUAL BATTERY 08/22/10, 700 block of N. Wayne Street. On August 22 at 2:15 am, an unknown man approached a woman from behind and put his hand up her skirt. The victim confronted the suspect and he apologized and left the area. The suspect is described as an African American male in his late 20’s, 5’7”, wearing a black tank top and dark basketball shorts.

PEEPING TOM 08/21/10, 1200 block of N. Quinn Street. On August 21 at 2:45 am, a woman heard a noise outside her bedroom window. When she looked outside a man wearing light colored pants fled from the area.

PEEPING TOM 08/21/10, 1600 block of N. 21st Street. On August 21 at 12:50 am, a witness saw an unknown man looking in apartment windows. The suspect was a tall and thin white male in his 20’s wearing a dark t-shirt and shorts.

PEEPING TOM 08/22/10, 1600 block of N. 21st Street. On August 22 at 10:30 pm, a woman noticed an unknown person peering into her apartment. There is no suspect description.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES) 08/19/10, 1500 block of Wilson Boulevard. On August 19 between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, an unknown subject entered at least two vehicles by smashing out a window in each, and stole cash. There are no known suspects.

ABDUCTION-ARREST 08/28/10, 1800 block of N. Quinn Street. On August 28 at 5 pm, a woman reported that her boyfriend forcefully kept her inside her apartment a few weeks prior. Michael Nangle, 45, of Arlington was charged with Abduction and held without bond.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING-ARREST 08/28/10, 2300 block of N. 11th Street. On August 28 at 5:45 am, two people got into a disagreement. One of the subjects cut the other with a broken glass object. Henry Galvarro, 32, of Arlington was charged with Malicious Wounding. He was held without bond.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY-ARREST 08/27/10, 1700 block of N. Moore Street. On August 27 at 8:50 pm, an intoxicated male threw a beer can at a small child and then assaulted the child’s parent. Bryan Crandall, 35, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of Assault and Battery. He was held on $3,000 bond.

BURGLARY 08/28/10, 1500 block of N. Rhodes Street. On August 27 between 9 am and 3 pm, an unknown subject entered a residence through the victim’s unlocked window and stole several items. There is no suspect information.

BURGLARY 08/31/10, 1700 block of Arlington Ridge Road. On August 31 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, an unknown subject gained entry by cutting a screen on the porch. A laptop was stolen. There is no suspect information.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 08/30/10, 1900 block of Fort Myer Drive. Between 5 pm on August 27, and 8:30 am on August 30, an unknown subject entered an office suite and stole laptop computers. There is no suspect information.

LARCENY OF BICYCLES (SERIES) 08/27/10, 1900 block of N. Vance Street. On August 26, 5 am and 11 am at least five bicycles were stolen by an unknown suspect.

STOLEN AUTO 8/27/10 NC TSW 4170 2003 Nissan Xterra, black 1600 block of N. 21st Street


Listed below are some of the community issues that the 2nd District Policing Team worked on during August:

- Extra patrols in Lyon Village and Clarendon.
- Extra patrols in Rosslyn and around Metro stations.
- Extra patrols along the bike path.
