AHC Proposal Presented at RR Urban Design Committee September 15
AHC addressed their revised proposal (dated September 9, 2010) to the Rosslyn Renaissance Urban Design Committee (UDC) on September 15. After hearing the presentation, the UDC voted with one dissent to oppose the development in its present form for a variety of listed reasons. The Rosslyn Renaissance Board, meeting on October 6, will take up the matter and make a determination on whether to support AHC's proposal. The UDC vote is only a recommendation to the RR board.

AHC gave the impression in the UDC meeting that its revised proposal satisfied community concerns. Community representatives on the committee confirmed community opposition to AHC's revised proposal.

One of the developer/architect members of the UDC sketched on AHC's overlay his suggested alternative: a combination of townhomes and an apartment building (with the apartment building being "C" shaped and fronting on Key Boulevard and the townhomes lined up along 19th). He stated that the value of the townhomes over condos might make this a financially viable alternative. Whether or not this is true, the point is that other solutions may be possible that would be more likely to garner acceptance by the community.

Stay tuned,
